How to find the one in a crazy world (Millennials please weigh in)

There has always been a debate of which comes first having an emotion or a thought. Which one happens first? I vote for the feeling. If I am walking home late at night and I sense someone is coming up behind me very quickly my heart goes double time and I feel startled out of whatever thoughts I had and a little apprehensive (I live in NYC).  Then a thought comes up like why are they increasing speed and all that? That’s the beginning of interpreting the environment.

And I am seeing this startle reaction become a culture. What I am seeing in our culture more and more is that passion rules and impulsive action is the best kick starter that we have. If I want it I must jump, grab there is only so much spotlight in the world   For the   Millennials is this the way the world has presented itself to you? I could see that; tiny apartments, few jobs and constant urgency could shape a world. I wonder sometimes if technology has taken over and instead of creating an easier life it has increased our blood pressure.

We have been trained to think life is productivity only.  Your nerves are twitching to begin a race.  The type of race that you will lose if you cross the finish line first.  We focus so much on the finish line that we forget about the qualities of our lives during the journey. That the journey itself is life the result is people rushing from one place to the next, immersed in technology and giving little thought to what’s around them.  And, we wonder why we’re not inspired or turned on for life? Instead we feel anxious and depressed.

What you have to offer the world comes from within not from the world but from you yourself.  That is the most important lesson in the world to learn.  If you look outside for approval and contentment it will always be elusive. It is elusive because we all value different things. If you root yourself in your own integrity the world cannot shake you. But you will not find it until you give yourself permission.  Stop moving so fast you aren’t leaving others behind you are leaving yourself behind. If you’re moving too fast for me and I can’t keep up with you and then I miss knowing you. When you have a firm understanding of you, you can connect to others.

The duality is that you need to turn your attention inward before you can turn your attention outward. If you want to connect to someone you have to find what makes that person a one from the some around you. ‘Then you will find someone. You will be able to see them because you can see yourself. But first you need to see your own singularity.

The technological singularity, or simply the singularity, is a hypothetical moment in time when artificial intelligence will have progressed to the point of a greater-than-human intelligence radically changing civilization, and perhaps human nature. But what if human beings realized their own power and potential by being observant of themselves and others? What if you became the singularity? What an explosion that would be!  People being aware that they have life every second that they breathe, basically I am saying it’s time to pay attention.
