Getting Unstuck

When I was younger and competing to get into schools and then competing to stay in them I thought there would be a moment when I had arrived when It happened. I wasn’t quite certain what it was but what it would mean is that everything would become effortless. I think you see the handwriting on the wall faster than I did. When I proved myself I had just thrown myself in a bigger pond and the cycle began again. But what happens over time is that once you master one skill-set, another one will pop up, then another and another. I was constantly and uncomfortably stretching beyond who I was and what I believed I could do at the time.

That is the art of growing and expanding. And the faster that you are growing and expanding – the more imperfections you will experience. Sometimes you work yourself into anxiety because you believed that one day you could just stop. And then you notice that no you probably can’t and that can feel depressing! So you work at a breakneck speed to continue to work at a breakneck speed. What is missing here? It’s a perception problem you think that there is an end game. That is, I do all the right things my reward will be to stop.

If there is no end (and yes I know we all die but most of us don’t have it marked on our calendars) then how do you get through this? By living it and looking at your life and realizing that you have the ability to shape your life. And with that ability comes fear, courage and hope. Yes, you will mess up and you dust yourself off. You’ll decide if you get back on the horse or try something else. That is resilience and hardiness. It is also an opportunity to learn kindness and compassion for you.
You will get scared from time to time. Other times you’re high fiving the mirror. You find peace when you recognize that change is constant. Life is not a destination. It is something that happens and changes every day. And what is left is just you being alive and the experience you have of life. If you hold too tightly to your expectations you choose to feel pain. You can throw yourself out there but remember life is a free fall. That is what being is. That is what a human being is.

You don’t need to get it right you just need to try and notice what you are learning along the way. Like to get unstuck?  Call me to schedule a free 50 minute consultation at (917) 456-4127.
