I don’t want to get fat over the holidays!

You’re going to the Holiday feast and it won’t be just one.  Let’s face it you are going to party until you groan out of bed on January first!  That’s quite a few meals and drinks away and I don’t know about you but I have a wedding dress to fit into so I do not want to tip the scales or miss a party in the next few months.  So what can I do here are three wise suggestions.

Think About It

Do you want to eat everything on that table as your relatives ask you questions you wish they wouldn’t?  Do you really want to walk around the party numbly eating and drinking because parties make you feel shy? Let’s start by noticing that you have control over what you do and that means you can decide what you want to do this holiday season ahead of time.  Don’t do this while staring at a giant turkey your resolve will fail.  You start by picturing what you want to do.  Imagine yourself enjoying everything without mindlessly stuffing yourself or drinking to excess. Even though your Aunt wants you to stuff yourself do you want to?  You can enjoy the food and drink without binging.  Give yourself an instruction before that you will not eat and drink until you can’t anymore

Choose Wisely

Protein and vegetables have as many as you like.  Alcohol, sugar and carbohydrates have some.  But don’t fill the plate.  If you spend most of your time eating vegetables and protein your body will thank you.  There is something in between over indulgence and deprivation. Yes you can enjoy yourself but notice what you are doing.

Notice what you are eating and drinking

Even though there is family commotion all around you zero in on your taste buds and enjoy it.  And if you don’t like it don’t eat it! When it comes to drinking know your tipping point. That is the point where you feel but you know if you take one more drink the drink will make all the decisions for you don’t go there. I am not doing a prohibition move  just think about it Do you have any idea what things even taste like or how much you have eaten when you are drunk? Plus a drink has enormous amounts of calories and sugar that adds up.

Where are your weaknesses?  Is it desert or the stuffing?  You can have some but if you know you lose control with these items decide how much you will eat and stick to it.  No grabbing the giant serving spoon and heaping the plate.  And you don’t have to sit misty eyed staring at the desert.  Choose how much you will eat.  I am asking you to think ahead of time make a plan on how you will treat yourself.

If you do these three things your New Year’s resolution may not be to lose weight. See you on the treadmill!
