Do I really have to go to work on Monday?

Let’s start off with something really surprising let’s say you don’t have to go to work!   How do you feel pretty surprising isn’t it?  Do you have  anxiety or are you overjoyed. I imagine some of you are getting upset or depressed right now and some of you are getting into a holiday mood.  For the people who are in the holiday mood what will you do on this day off?  Seriously get the pen and paper and scribble it all down. For the person who felt annoyed write all the reasons down why did it annoy you to be told you don’t have to go to work?  Now I will tell you what you were really telling yourself when you wrote that list.

For starters, for some of you I have to disappoint you.  You really do need to go to work. If you don’t, you have to deal with the consequences of not doing it. But for those of you who went through a yippee yahoo moment before I kill the joy let’s look at your list.  Did you write you’ll sleep in late?  Have lunch with a friend?  Get the apartment finally cleaned? What thoughts immediately came up if you had that day?

Your list isn’t a go back to snooze call it is a wake up call.  This is what you are hungry for to have more of these things in your life. Now to get them you will need patience and some sacrifice.  If you need more sleep go to bed early.  If you need to be with friends open up the appointment book, call them and show up.  If it is chores and other responsibilities you may need to look at other options or ask for help with them. Don’t ignore yourself. Start adding these things in bit by bit and you will feel happier. It means you will need to change and rearrange what you normally do.  Give yourself an extended holiday by putting these things back into your life.  You miss them and you want them.

For the people who did the annoyed list what came up?  You have to work to pay the rent?  This is what adults do?  It’s a rat race and I’m just running.  Whatever you wrote this is a stresser for you.  If money came up you aren’t happy with the money coming into your life or the money going out.  Am I recommending a budget, a raise, a second job or a new job?  That is your call.  The fact that you wrote it points to where the dissatisfaction lies.  Take a look at it and see what your options are brainstorm this.  Throw every idea at it that you can. You will see what makes sense later.

What is if it is something nebulous like “I have no choice” keep going with the thought specifically why don’t you have a choice what is it? The more you pare down the irritation the closer you will come to the source.  When you find the dissatisfaction you can begin to address it.

Of course you can always throw up your hands and decide there is nothing you can do to change the way of the world and by doing nothing you will prove your hypothesis.  By seeing what you can do you are taking on the ultimate responsibility of living your life.  Just keep telling yourself every day it’s impossible
